third wave feminists oh noes

*crickets*

I'll have a tiny bit of respect for the New Feminists when they have more than jack shit to say about this kind of stuff.

So...all of the Left lives on the Upper East Side? Huh!
*hurries off to tell TGIL that our sex actually sucks because Dennis Miller said so*

And... neither Miller nor O'Reilly seem to grasp what schadenfreude means.

Seriously

They got the definition precisely backwards.

Of course, Miller is the guy who once actually used the phrase "transverse the Gadsden Purchase" without aparent irony. (He meant "traverse.") He's basically got himself into the malaprop schtick the old comedian Norm Crosby developed, except Miller doesn't realize it.
Mainly Miller just looks drunk. I mean, on top of the usual assholism.
What is his problem? Seriously? Why is he such a dick?
Haha, awesome. Oh, and the "gay men love prison rape, hyuk hyuk" bit, I hadn't seen that part.

Ah yes. "New Feminists."

Every anti-feminist movement since, well, feminism has tried to call itself some variety of "new feminism."

As a certain Violet Socks used to say (before she lost her goddamned mind), "Fuck that noise."

Re: Ah yes. "New Feminists."

"New Coke"

"New Caprica"

Re: Ah yes. "New Feminists."

How many "fourth waves" have there been now?
Eep! It's not something I've experienced myself, but it has the ring of truth.

Certainly, Sarah Palin pulled that out -- "I have a diverse family, I have pro-choice friends, I have gay friends, I see how the other side thinks". Well, yeah, and so what? I have religious right-wing relatives whom I get along with (generally by not talking politics, ever); it doesn't mean that if I were In Charge of Everything I would listen to them.
From my friend [info]nin_man:
So, is Obama anti-abortion or pro-abortion? Huh? Huh?

Does anyone here know if the Catholic church would support this man's assertions that voting for Obama is a sin?
I'm pretty sure the Pope or other higher-ups have made disparaging noises about pro-choice Catholic politicians, but...voting for Obama is a sin? I haven't heard that one.
One sentence stands out for the mocking: "For, in a world where women were the primary business travelers, women would have been designing planes, and they would have realized how difficult it would be for a woman to hoist a bag over her head."
What the hell? Women are feeble delicate creatures who must be protected from any exertion, however minor? There are women who hoist large stone jars of water over their heads several times a day, lady. Think those weight less then your damn carry-on?

Once again, a commenter at RL fails to realise that women are individuals and more than a few of them have sufficient upper-body strength to "hoist a bag over her head."

edit: I'm procrastinating for a reason, really.

"...after Darwin died no other Ethologist wrote about or studied female choice."
Well, Darwin wasn't an Ethologist but I suppose that's technically true since neither is Ernst Mayr.

I would think that would have more to do with height than sex. And yeah, the average man is a lot taller than the average woman, but...

I'm petite and yeah, it's a pain in the ass to hoist my bag into the overhead bin. On the other hand, airplane seats are wide enough and offer enough legroom for me to sit fairly comfortably, which would not be the case if I were bigger.

I really don't think it's a particularly sexist system, at least not in that respect.
I...

FAILLLLLLLLL

hey DUMBASS, as long as you're inventing this whole different world, have you considered the bit where not ONLY um yeah lots of women have sufficient body strength to -put a bag in the overhead- (jesus) but, I am just guessing, 'zere a bit of cutesy lumbering allusion to womens' bags are always heavier because they need to carry so much crap with them wherever we go?

because, it's fucking genetic, the whole, pack an entire month's worth of clothes and makeup and hair shit and...

just guessing.

either way: MASSIVE FAIL

someone is apparently stuck on the whole "bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and then serve it up to my manly hunk o' man while he's manfully sitting on his manful ass" or however the fuck it goes.

It just hit me: of COURSE it's too heavy for her to lift. She's got the entire White (etc. etc.) Woman's Burden in her carryon!
Obama has to do everything, even though we don't believe he can do anything.
Do these people stop at any point and think about what they are writing? Not that it matters because they'll bitterly sneer no matter what he does but, really, expecting someone who has to clean up after Bush to waste time on a lame-duck Congressional session instead of working on the transition? How idiotic.
Okay, the VERY FIRST COMMENT to that entry?

I don’t know. I think [HRC] could get a lot of work done as SOS, should she accept the position. I wouldn’t like her being under his thumb, but she’s a wild wood elf. No one can control her, only the winds and the rains.

what. the fuck.
Rumproast reports yet another PUMA epic fail.
At some point this is all going to become painful reading because pity will kick in but I'm not there yet.
The best part about that is how they think the radio show was a great success and they are planning to do it again, meanwhile the station manager is apologizing to listeners and saying it's an experiment that will never happen again.
Excuse me?
Say, didn't Sarah Palin boast about shopping at WalMart, unlike those unAmerican communist-supporting elites who wear clothes from Neiman Marcus and Saks?
Oh my god. Yes, Michelle Obama was on the board of a company that had major dealings with Wal-Mart.

HILLARY CLINTON WAS ON THE BOARD OF WAL-MART.

The stoopit is taking over the universe.
Aside from the ridiculous hypocrisy "Can't we all just get along... unless you disagree with me about Palin and/or Obama?", there are some signs of dissent in the ranks.
"Here in Columbus, OH, we have the second-largest Somali population in the country, and I watch as this group holds out a hand and lifts each other up to get ahead. It's truly the American Way."

But, wait! That's not what they're saying at Reclusive Leftist, where immigrants are EVIL and never help each other and take away all the good jobs.

Alwaysthinking says:

"Sandra S. — I do believe also that the problem of misogyny in some immigrant populations is growing in the U.S., and of course it brings into play so many other things like deeply ingrained religious beliefs, whether they are right or wrong. I also think that some women in these groups want relief but are afraid to say anything. It may take a generation or two for them to assimilate but the treatment of women during this election campaign probably has emboldened the men and perhaps silenced more women. Our country could have been a symbol of leadership, but now everything is in disarray."

Dear Alwaysthinking:
The rest of the world does not need a group of whiny white women to rescue them.
Sincerely,
the rest of the world.

the15th says:

"alwaysthinking, SandraS — this is probably the only place where I feel comfortable mentioning that I also worry about how the attitudes of men from cultures where women are (more) subservient will affect our culture. Especially as a woman in a technology field — many tech companies are replacing older American workers with H1-B visa holders. A lot of these new workers are men with wives at home, negating the need for companies to accommodate work-life balance. The percentage of women in computer-related fields has fallen significantly since the 80’s, and I can’t help wondering if it’s related."

Notice that women from these other cultures are "more subservient" not "more oppressed." Nice display of solidarity with "the rest of the world", eh?
I was just posting about that shit! what the hell.
